The most common way anyone can become a staff member is to contact either Excel or the Lead (once known as Head) of the staff you would like to apply for.
It is highly recommended that you contact the Lead staff first, as Excel is often very busy.
To find out who the Lead member is of each staff class, go here:-
http://www.herupets.com/staff.php
However, sometimes the Lead isn't listed. The reason for this may be varied and cannot be listed here.
Once you have messaged the staff member you have chosen to apply to, please be patient. You may have to wait a fair ammount of time to get a reply, do not forget that the staff can get busy. Also, please do not be offended if you do not get a reply at all. This may be because the Lead staff believes that no more staff are needed.
When and if you get a message reply, be sure to read it correctly. The staff member may tell you that they no longer need staff members, but if not, stay polite and get straight to the point.
When you get a message asking you how you could help Herupets and why you should be a staff member, stick to topic.
This is the important bit, be yourself but be professional. Herupets wont accept immature users as staff.
Depending on which position you are applying for, you may be asked to do different things.
If applying for a moderator position, you may be asked a few questions which you will need to know the answers to. If you have been a staff member on another website before, be sure to mention it. Moderators are there to help other users and to make sure the users abide to the rules and are polite, especially in the forums.
If applying for an artist position, you may be asked to give an example of your work. If you have a DeviantArt account, this may help. You must have a similar (what we call) style to the other artists. This means that your art must look similar to the other images.
If applying for a UA (User Admin) position, you will need a fair bit more knowledge and experience than you would if applying as a moderator. UA's act as moderators, but also take care of any problems users may encounter. This includes dealing with lost/stolen accounts and lost items. The UA job is an important job, and must not be taken lightly.
The Admin position is only available to the most experienced and most reliable of people. The Administrators take on all the jobs as the other staff members, but they also deal with the coding (HTML and PHP) for the website.
Once you have sent your application you must wait patiently for a reply. You must try not to be very upset if not accepted.
Also, if you do become a staff member, you MUST do your job. Obey your superiors (this means the Lead staff and UA and Admin) and do not abuse your staff powers.
If you are fired from staff, there will be a reason. Do not go directly to your previous superiors and complain, as this will not help you at all. However, you can re-apply providing you are polite and have what is needed.
Remember that being a staff member is NOT a popularity contest. You are there to help the website!
Note that staff are not paid for their work.
